Ailing 5-year-old Penang boy gets his wish fulfilled

MUHAMMAD Irfan Izwan, 5 has every reason to smile from ear-to-ear.

His birthday on January 19 was special – a birthday party was organised for him by the Penang Hospital team and he received an iPad just in time for his big day from the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia.

Despite being exhausted from his birthday party, Muhammad Irfan was all excited with his new iPad which kept him busy throughout the afternoon when CWS member Ong See Chyn dropped by to hand him his wish.

He posed for photographs with his new gadget; played some games on it and was given a quick lesson on the iPad by doctors Dr Yeoh Seoh Leng and Dr Teh Tat Sin.

Muhammad Irfan was first diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) when he was just below 2 years old. Unfortunately for him, he had an isolated central nervous system (CNS) relapse in July 2010. He was on maintenance therapy when he had another CNS relapse on January 10 this year.

His mother Rohana Ramli was all smiles sitting beside him, seeing how happy and energetic he was with the new gadget he had received from the society which fulfills the wishes of children suffering from terminal or chronic diseases in the country.

CWS vice president Teoh Teik Hoong said the society had received Muhammad Irfan’s wish a week earlier and had quickly mobilized to fulfill his wish.

“We are glad to see how Muhammad Irfan’s wish has brought smiles to him and his mother.”

“It is a good start to the Lunar New Year when every Malaysian celebrates the start of the Dragon Year,” he said.
